What we do…
At Focus Forward in Napa County, CA, physical therapy begins with a thorough evaluation to identify the cause or causes of pain and dysfunction for each client. A comprehensive approach is utilized to identify all of the contributing variables. After the assessment is made, goals are set by the client with the physical therapist, and a treatment plan is established to optimize healing.
“Physical Therapy is a dynamic profession with an established theoretical and scientific base and widespread clinical applications in the restoration, maintenance and promotion of optimal physical function.”–APTA’s Guide to Physical Therapist Practice

What is Integrative Manual Therapy (IMT)?
IMT is a unique approach to rehabilitation developed more than 35 years ago by Dr. Sharon Weiselfish-Giammatteo, Ph.D., P.T. which combines aspects of traditional and advanced therapies. Blending hands-on techniques of manual medicine with traditional physiotherapy, IMT has continued to evolve by combining the sciences of anatomy, physiology, pathology and functional medicine with ongoing clinical research. To learn more about the treatment techniques and philosophy developed by Dr. Weiselfish-Giamatteo, check out Center IMT’s website: imtwellnesscenter.com
How is IMT different from traditional physical therapy?
The difference lies in the fundamental philosophy of IMT and its unique approach to evaluation and treatment.
Instead of focusing only on a painful joint or muscle group, IMT takes into account the whole body. Recognizing that every structure in the human body is interconnected by layers of tissue, commonly referred to as fascia, we can see that tensions from other structures can influence and inhibit your body’s ability to heal the site of your injury. This “whole body” approach to evaluation and treatment looks beyond the painful area in order to find and treat the root causes of your pain and disability. Integrative Manual Therapy is just that–a true integrative approach that combines the different philosophies of manual medicine, functional medicine and nutritional support with skilled hands-on treatment and functional exercises.
Unlike other exercise therapies that do not address structure, IMT treatments are based on hour-long, one-on-one interaction, where our highly skilled practitioners at our physiotherapy clinic in Napa County, CA take a hands-on approach to healing.
